Tribeca Loft

New York, NY

When one thinks of a family apartment, the moodiness of dark walls and floors rarely comes to mind. And yet, this loft in Tribeca is home to an active downtown family with several children. The once cookie-cutter minimalist space was transformed to fit the lifestyle and art collection of the new owners. Neutrality was banished and replaced with caviar colored walls and floors, gilded concrete columns, glossy raised panel millwork, vintage hardware and a decadent marble-clad bathroom. The vintage furnishings draw from the last three quarters of the 20th century to create a mood that is perfect both for elegant parties as well as kids-only sleepovers. The Berman Horn Studio custom designed light fixture above the dining table creates a dramatic focal point through the use of translucent marble and cascading crystal spheres. The owners’ art collection takes up most of the walls and renders the idea of displaying art in a white box space obsolete. Similarly, the dark and passionate spaces of this apartment just may make everything else pale by comparison.
