Kenton’s Restaurant celebrates the long history of bourbon in America and charts its path along the Mississippi River from Kentucky to New Orleans. Located in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood the interior of Kenton’s is visible through large windows that display the diverse interior spaces to the neighborhood. To create an exciting space that’s both contemporary and rich with history, Berman Horn Studio draws design inspiration from sources such as Kentucky’s horse country, the ornate cast ironwork of the 19th century, flickering gas lit lanterns of New Orleans, and the plush furniture and accessories of historic brasseries. The interior space is defined and ornamented by an array of ornate cast iron columns and arches, which articulate the height and scale of the dining room. A monumental custom commissioned art work on translucent panels is attached to the central columns and screens the bar from the dining area, while maintaining a sense of design unity. Materials, colors and accessories throughout Kenton’s have been selected because they are rich with evocation: vintage style tile in the entry, intricate herringbone white oak parquet, cast iron columns and arches as well as an array of custom designed Bevolo lanterns.
