A Readers’ Retreat

Gallatin, NY

Farmhouses tell stories about time, about families, and about their connection to the land. This project in New York’s Hudson Valley celebrates this sense of longevity and abundance through a fearless collection of vintage furnishings held within the simplicity of white-washed rooms. Color is used as a tonic to seize the eye, yielding moments of visual pleasure. Textures, fabrics and soft seating all create a sense of deep comfort, inviting long talks, family gatherings or afternoons of reading. The furniture and accessories span years and continents, sharing a sense of whimsy. Selected walls are dressed in ebullient floral wallpapers, bringing nature indoors even on winter days. Throughout, the layers speak about the passage of time, the gift of being together with family and friends.
